Snow Globes

The first snow globe was created by a man named Erwin Perzy. He was a medical instrument technician that was asked to make light brighter in the operating room. He considered a technique shoemakers used where they filled globes with water and placed them in front of candles to brighten the light. He also added tinsel and white particles hoping the light would reflect off them . Instead the particles sunk, but reminded him of snow. When a friend requested a pewter miniature Erwin decided to place it in the globe with the white particles and the first snow globe was invented.

There are several different sizes, brands, types, and themes of snow globes. Some play music , Some light up, some move , even recently found a few that makes the snow fly on it's own. Snow globes can be found in the parks, and sometimes at every day stores such as walgreens and Target. Recently I found out that you can find a few mini princess globes and regular sized villain globes at Hot Topic.  I have found that it is rare to find a snow globe on location at the Disney store but they are available on Disneystore.com .

Snow globes are extremely fragile and break easily. Make sure you check for any breaks or cracks before purchasing at any non retail location. Do not leave your snow globes in direct sunlight or in areas that get to cold or hot and make sure to dust them softly regularly to preserve them. Bubbles and yellowing of water is a common woe with snow globes. In these cases you may find a piece on the bottom of the globe that acts as a cover . You can gently remove it and there should be a area to refill the snow globe. Only add room temperature Distilled water. If unsure , or worried about doing such things yourself there are professionals that can fix those issues also.
